when takeing photos of large fish allways kneel down or crouch down with your unhooking mat directly underneath, never stand up in case the fish starts to flap, if dropped could harm or kill the fish, in hot weather have a bucket of water so the fish can be wetted down, return the fish as quick as possible,i know most people know this but thought i would mention this for anyone new to angling...

Hair Rig advice needed

I was fishing legered hair rigged pellet & boilie on the Stour & having plenty of what I would consider proper bites, where the tip would bend right round & I would strike into nothing, when normally I would expect to feel solid resistance of some description. As you can imagine this was very frustrating.

I was using medium size pellets...

Maggot Fishing the Avon In Summer

Sorry if this has been covered before to some extent, but I'd like to ask the experts like Breadflake on how to get through to the better fish when trotting. On the Avon in Summer, I trot the gravel runs in The Severals with float fished white maggot, feeding a catapult pouchful at every cast. The problem is that I usually catch shedloads of dace and minnows, but not the better chub or perhaps barbel that I am after.
I usually use 3lb Dennan float fish straight through to a 14 hook...

Winter Pellet Fishing

I have read most of the advice that the magazine pundits give about fishing with 'Pellet' hook baits and loose feed for winter Barbel fishing but still note that a fair number of anglers continue to use pellet baits all year round? I would appreciate any advice from our Barbus experts on whether 'The Pellet' is still an effective winter bait (both hook bait and loose feed) or not.
For the record I tend to switch to the boilie in winter but am by no means convinced...

Sunday 30th Sept @ Northfield complex

Hi all just to let know there will be a work party on the 30th Sept @ Northfield complex, this is in preperation for the Open Weekend the following week

Work will be done on the main lake and on the wash pit a general tidy up with a short back and sides to the paths and track!!

Can anyone help..went to a fishing show a few years back and saw a guy using a devise to throw pellets..it looked like a tube of about a foot or so long with 2 catapult rubbers running down it..you pulled the bait cup back along the tube to a certain mark.. let go and it fired a egg cup full amount of pellets the same distance every time.. the spay of pellet was very concentrated on impact and he was using a target for his display......does anyone know what its called...

Feeder Fishing for Chub/Barbel

I can catch chub a plenty on a float or free-lining but put a feeder rod in my hands and I'm pretty much useless.

Not being easily put off, I'm sticking with my aim to improve my feeder fishing and to use pellets & boilies as little as possible.

Can anyone offer some advice on the rigs/set-up to use on rivers, to help me hit those chub bites? I'm sticking with hemp/caster and have been using artificials on the hair/hook. I've tried free running inline feeders, mini-bolt...

I'm sure this must have been raised before, but after reading the excellent Spring Newsletter, particularly the articles on the Rivers, it seems that changes in tactics might be needed if we want to continue fishing in weedy swims.
We've all had to adapt to different methods in other areas of our lives, and fishing is no different. For example, I didn't realise that girls and women were also people you could have sexy time with until I left public school!

Float fishing with a fixed spool reel

I am getting back to basics and trotting with a fixed spool reel. One problem I am finding difficult to solve is finding one which does not stand off the handle too far and allows me to control the line flow comfortably with my fore finger.

Do members have any suggestions for a suitable reel? Frankly I am looking at a matchman's approach to catching big fish next season. Sensible bs line, of course. Let's say (at least to start with) that money is no object in the quest for the...

Rear Drag .. correct use of

Can anyone help me with something probably pretty basic?

Im a little unsure how to use rear drag properly, generally, im using it for playing the fish once hooked, but Im getting smashed a bit on 6lb line, how do you correctly set your rear drag to match your breaking strain? Or is this even possible?
